Privacy is not a formality here — it is foundational to how this service works. You cannot trust us with something as personal as finding a life partner unless you trust us with your data.

• Compatibility data: Your answers to the compatibility questionnaire — covering values, lifestyle, relationship goals, and partner preferences. This is the core data our matching system uses.
• Identity information: Provided only if you choose to proceed to an introduction. Used solely for identity verification. Never shared without your explicit consent.
• Photos: Provided only at the introduction stage, and shared only with the specific person you have been matched with — only after both parties give explicit, separate consent.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, and session data — used only for security and service operation purposes.
• Communications: Messages sent to us via the contact form or by email.

Sensitive Information

Some information we collect qualifies as sensitive information under the Australian Privacy Act 1988. This includes:

• Religious beliefs or affiliations (from the compatibility questionnaire)
• Health-related information (fitness habits, alcohol use, smoking status)
• Sexual preferences or orientation (inferred from partner gender preferences)

We collect sensitive information only where it is directly required to provide our matching service, and only with your explicit, informed consent. You provide that consent when you complete and submit the compatibility questionnaire. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us to request deletion of your data.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information only for the following purposes:

• To operate the matching system and identify your most compatible potential partners.
• To contact you when a match meeting our compatibility threshold has been identified.
• To verify identity and facilitate an introduction — only if you choose to proceed.

• To maintain and improve the security and performance of the service.
• If you opted in during registration: occasional updates and insights from Matched by Stars.

We do not use your information for targeted advertising, sale to third parties, or any purpose not listed above. Your data is not a product.

Who Can See Your Information

Your profile is never public. There are no search results, no browseable listings, and no ability for other users to find you. Your information is accessible only to:

• Our automated matching system, which processes your compatibility data.
• Authorised Matched by Stars personnel, for the purpose of reviewing and confirming potential matches — subject to internal access controls.
• The specific person you have been introduced to — and only the information relevant to that introduction, and only after both parties have individually consented.

Sharing With Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes — ever.

We use a small number of trusted service providers to help operate the service, including our web hosting provider. These providers process data only on our instructions and are prohibited from using it for any other purpose. Where these providers are located outside Australia, we take steps to ensure appropriate data protections are in place.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers operated by our hosting provider, Hostinger, located in Indonesia. We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted HTTPS connections, secure password hashing, session controls, and access restrictions.

While we take all reasonable steps to protect your information, no system can be guaranteed completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to contact us immediately if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account.

In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account remains active. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records. Anonymised or aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained for service improvement purposes.
